daily rhythm

What a day at School of Joy actually looks like

Flexible schedule — from one day a week up to five; short program (9:00–13:00) or full day (9:00–15:00). Most children come 5 days a week, but there is no single pattern for everyone.

09:30

Morning meeting

A group gathering, much like a team stand-up — children propose what they want to do today, announcements are made, and community practices are refreshed when needed.

10:00 – 11:30

Activities proposed by facilitators or by children

Math, handwriting, grammar, history, geography, creative writing, experiments, biology, English, or "ask me anything" sessions about money, the body, the universe. In parallel, children can start their own activities. They can happen indoors, in the yard or in the forest.

11:30 – 12:30

Lunch

Children choose whether to eat together or not — but the time is set aside for it, in the kitchen, living room or outside.

12:30 – 14:00

Activities proposed by facilitators or by children

The morning's activities continue, in the same spirit of free choice.

14:00 – 14:30

Reflection time

How was the day, what did I do of what I set out to do, would I do anything differently next time?

14:30 – 15:00

Caring for the space & goodbye

Respect for the space means caring for it too — we clean and prepare the place together for the next day. We close the day in a circle.

The weekly rhythm

Monday — we review the community's agreements together (cleaning, the student-on-duty role, conflict management).

Friday — children choose the activities they will join the following week.

Weekly, from autumn 2026 — the older group (ages 10-14) attends STEAM workshops at QUB, the centre for science and art in Cluj-Napoca.

Days look different from one child to another — some choose the group, others individual work. Both are equally encouraged.
